Thoughts on Dating

  This question enters my head as I lie here on the floor typing on my computer. Why am I lying here on the floor you ask? Simple. I don’t want to buy a computer desk. It’s not that I can’t afford it. It is simply that I do not wish to spend any money on a computer desk. So I am content to lie here on the floor and type. Now, if a computer desk just so happened to be made available and free for the taking. You can bet that your favorite pick-up artist on the make will snatch it right up. Even if it involves some late night liberation. So what does make a good pick-up artist? It’s simple! Though, after reading the book A brief history in Time, by Stephen Hawkins, I thought that quantum physics was quite simple. Reality however proved me wrong. Asking myself this question would be like Dale Earnheart Jr. asking himself what makes a great racecar driver or Doug Gust as to what makes a great ATV Moto-x racer. People have the impression online dating is for the “young’uns”, and it is, but it’s also for you. I’m not even sure who “you” are, but it’s for you. That is because  online dating is for everyone.  No matter your age, gender, sexual preferences (and there are some odd ones), there is a perfect site for you to meet a potential mate. I recently saw a niche dating site for people who like to wear diapers: “DiaperMates” (seriously). If someone can find their mate prancing around in plastic Huggies; I’m sure  there is someone to meet your criteria. If you’re single , and let’s hope you are (otherwise stop reading and spend this time with your spouse), you need to be online in some capacity. Capitalize on opportunities in person, but also have a presence on the Internet.   I've had some pretty depressing set-ups in my dating past, but none of them top Book Guy (BG). He is a colleague of a girlfriend of mine (the female half of The Coracle - introduced   here ) who had been talking him up to me for months. He had all the qualifications: Jewish, smart, funny, just self-published his own book, nice, etc. This was in early 2007, when I had decided that, if I was going to find a worthwhile man to possibly marry, dating was going to have to be my second job.   Even though we’ve been broken up and officially ‘just friends’ for years, there was one part of my relationship with Only Child that lived on – our cat Tino. When we moved in together, I was convinced that my cat AppleButt, who had a kitty roommate in my previous place, was lonely. So I insisted on adopting another cat to keep her company. Only Child resisted the idea and, in fact, didn’t even come with me to pick him out. Instead I brought a friend and we fell in love with the most handsome male cat in the shelter. Why do men cheat, especially with escorts? This is the million dollar question of the day.  The question that’s been asked by  Oprah, Redbook, Essence Magazine, Dr. Phil , and a host of other sources trying to get to the bottom of this domestic issue.
